The slow travel orthodoxy that dominates travel advice forums got challenged this week by a traveler who completed a whirlwind tour of four Moroccan cities in just six days—and loved it.
Their experience visiting Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, and Marrakesh in less than a week pushes back against conventional wisdom that says you need to slow down to truly experience a destination.
"As I was doing my research on Morocco and the cities I wanted to visit, I came across many inquiry posts where the commenters would discourage tourists from visiting multiple cities in a short span of time," the traveler wrote on r/travel. "They said they won't be able to properly see nor appreciate each place."
The traveler ignored the advice. And looking back, they're glad they did.
A Rose from Each Garden
"Having concluded my 6 day trip... I'd say don't be discouraged," they wrote. "As long as you have the energy, and don't mind running on little sleep, give it a try."
The fast-paced itinerary delivered something unexpected: diverse experiences that wouldn't have been possible with a slower approach.
"I got to experience a bit of everything, from culture, food, modernity, and history. A rose from each garden," they explained. "For example, my favorite dish was in Tangier, my favorite cultural experience was in Rabat, and my favorite night was strolling around Jemaa El Fna. While of course, the coolest architectural structure I came across was in Casa."
This approach challenges the philosophy that has become gospel in travel communities—the idea that rushing through destinations means missing their essence.
