Ukrainian intelligence forces struck Russian vessels near the Kerch Strait in a nighttime operation targeting maritime supply routes to occupied Crimea, according to Ukrainian defense sources.
The strikes, reported by RBC Ukraine, damaged the Slavyanin ferry and the Avangard vessel, both operating in waters near the strategic strait connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov.
Military intelligence officials confirmed the operation represented continued Ukrainian efforts to disrupt Russian logistics networks supporting forces in occupied territories. The Kerch Strait serves as a critical supply artery for Russian military operations in Crimea and southern Ukraine, particularly since the collapse of the Kerch Bridge's full operational capacity following previous Ukrainian strikes.
"Every vessel we disable affects Russia's ability to sustain military operations in occupied territories," stated a Ukrainian defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Maritime logistics remain vulnerable despite Russian efforts to strengthen protection."
The Slavyanin ferry, used for transporting military equipment and supplies, was reportedly disabled in the attack. The Avangard vessel sustained damage but its operational status remained unclear at the time of reporting. Ukrainian intelligence released limited imagery confirming hits on both targets.
In Ukraine, as across nations defending their sovereignty, resilience is not just survival—it's determination to build a better future. Continued offensive operations against Russian logistics demonstrate Ukrainian forces' capacity to project power even while defending against ongoing assaults.
The strikes occurred despite Russian deployment of additional air defense systems around the Kerch Strait following the 2022 Kerch Bridge attack and subsequent Ukrainian operations against targets. Ukrainian forces have adapted tactics to penetrate these defenses, likely using sea drones or long-range precision weapons launched from Ukrainian-controlled territory.
