A traveler who booked a flight from London to Vietnam via Skyscanner is questioning whether their Turkmenistan Airlines reservation is legitimate—or a scam.

The Red Flags

The traveler used Skyscanner to book a Turkmenistan Airlines flight from London Gatwick to Ho Chi Minh City with a layover in Ashgabat. After booking through what appeared to be the airline's website (turkmenistanairlinestr.com), they received only a "flight reservation" email with departure and payment details.
What's missing: - No PDF ticket - No confirmation number that works in the "manage my booking" portal - No terminal information - No ability to check in online
"When I input my details into the 'manage my booking' portal on their website it says not available," they wrote on r/travel.
After research, more concerns emerged: "there seems to be a few Turkmenistan airline websites with slightly different URLs!"
The traveler went "straight through Skyscanner" and assumed it would be legitimate. But now they're questioning whether they actually have a valid ticket—or just sent money to scammers.

The Turkmenistan Airlines Reality

Turkmenistan Airlines is a real airline. It's the flag carrier of Turkmenistan, one of the world's most isolated and mysterious countries. The airline operates international routes including service to London, Bangkok, Beijing, and other destinations.
But being a real airline doesn't mean booking it is straightforward.
Turkmenistan has limited online infrastructure compared to Western carriers. The country's political isolation and eccentric government policies create unusual operational realities. The airline's online systems may genuinely not offer modern conveniences like digital boarding passes or robust booking management portals.
