While everyone flocks to Nepal's Everest trails, India's Sikkim offers equally stunning Himalayan scenery with a fraction of the crowds.
Sikkim's Old Silk Route, Kanchenjunga views, and tea gardens provide raw Himalayan experiences without the tourist infrastructure that defines Nepal's popular treks. A traveler who spent one week in the region shared photos and insights on r/travel, calling it "probably one of India's rawest destination."
The Old Silk Route: Trip Highlight
The Old Silk Route in Zuluk earned top billing. "This was the highlight of my trip," the traveler stated. The drive on one of the world's oldest still-in-use roads delivers "out of the world" experiences.
The group waited an hour at Thambi View Point until sunset. The patience paid off with "absolutely mesmerising" views as light shifted across the ancient road carved into Himalayan slopes.
Natural Wonders
Lake Kupup (also called Lake Elephant) appeared en route from Nathu La Pass to Zuluk. The scenic drive showcased the landscape diversity compressed into small geographic areas.
