Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have jointly warned Israel against launching a major ground offensive into Lebanon, marking a rare coordinated intervention by Western allies to constrain Israeli military action amid the expanding Middle East conflict.
The four nations issued a joint statement on Sunday expressing "grave concern" over reports that Israel is preparing a large-scale ground invasion of Lebanon to combat Hezbollah forces, according to Reuters. The statement warned that such an operation could "dramatically escalate regional tensions and lead to catastrophic humanitarian consequences."
The diplomatic intervention comes as Israel faces an intensifying multi-front conflict following the outbreak of war with Iran. Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia that dominates much of southern Lebanon, has launched hundreds of rockets into northern Israel in recent days, forcing the evacuation of tens of thousands of Israeli civilians.
Israeli officials have not confirmed plans for a ground offensive, but military movements near the Lebanese border have intensified significantly. Satellite imagery analyzed by defense experts shows a buildup of armor, artillery, and mechanized infantry units in staging areas along the frontier.
