SAN FRANCISCO — Victor Wembanyama just put the basketball world on notice. Again.
Forty-one points. Eighteen rebounds. Three blocks. In 29 minutes. Let me say that again — 29 MINUTES. Most superstars don't even finish their warmups in that time.
The Spurs phenom went 16-for-22 from the field against the Warriors, and this was his second consecutive 40-point performance. At 7-foot-4, Victor Wembanyama is doing things we've never seen before. He's not the future anymore, folks. He's the present.
"He's unguardable," one Warriors assistant said courtside, and honestly, what else is there to say? You can't teach what Wembanyama has. The combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ is once-in-a-generation stuff.
Here's what blows my mind: the efficiency. We're talking about a 72.7 percent shooting night from a guy who's taller than most NBA centers and more skilled than most guards. He's making it look easy. The Warriors threw everything at him — double teams, zone looks, Draymond Green's usual antics — and Wemby just kept scoring.
And he did it in 29 minutes because San Antonio was up so big they could rest him in the fourth quarter. That's dominance. That's a superstar in his prime. Except Wembanyama is only in his second season.
Remember when everyone said he needed time to adjust to the NBA? Remember when the scouts worried about his frame? Yeah, me neither.
The scary part? He's still getting better. The Spurs have their franchise player, and the rest of the league better take notice.
That's what sports is all about, folks.
