Summer Game Fest is back, and this year's lineup is absolutely stacked. If you're a gamer who actually cares about announcements, June 2-7 is about to be your Super Bowl.
Let me break down the essential viewing schedule so you don't miss anything important. And yes, I'm including timezones because I'm not a monster.
Monday, June 2: PlayStation State of Play Sony's kicking things off. Expect first-party reveals, probably some third-party surprises, and if we're lucky, actual gameplay footage instead of cinematic trailers. State of Play has been hit-or-miss lately, but when Sony shows up, they show up.
Thursday, June 5: The Main Event This is the big day. Geoff Keighley returns with Summer Game Fest Live, which is basically E3's spiritual successor without all the corporate booth babe cringe. Keighley's been pretty good at securing world premieres, so expect some genuine surprises here.
Also dropping the same day: Day of the Devs, which is honestly where the real gems hide. If you love indie games (and if you're reading this, you probably do), this showcase consistently delivers the kind of creative, weird stuff that makes gaming exciting.
Friday, June 6: Choose Your Own Adventure Friday's got something for everyone: - Wholesome Direct: Cozy games, farming sims, emotional narratives. Perfect if you need a break from all the gun violence. - Story-Rich Showcase: Narrative-focused games. Think walking simulators but like, the good kind. - Future Games Show: A mixed bag, but usually has at least one or two announcements worth paying attention to.
Saturday, June 7: Xbox Goes Nuclear Microsoft's closing out the week with the Xbox Games Showcase, immediately followed by a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct. That's right, a full showcase just for Gears. Either Microsoft has an absolutely insane amount of content to show, or they're betting hard on nostalgia. Probably both.
