You want honesty? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just gave it to you. The Oklahoma City Thunder star addressed criticism about his free throw attempts with a refreshingly candid take on the business of basketball, and let me tell you - it's going to make some people uncomfortable.
"I understand why [fans] are frustrated about it, because they're an X, Y and Z fan," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "They're playing against us, and in the past couple years we've happened to beat their team."
But here's where it gets interesting. SGA pointed out that you'll never hear an OKC fan complain about his free throws. You'll never hear a Denver fan complain about Jokić's free throws. You'll never hear a Lakers fan complain about Luka's free throws. "It's just part of the business," he said.
Then came the line that's going to echo through social media: "I love it, it creates buzz around the game. It creates rivalries. It creates energy... the fact that they care so much is great, because they care, they watch it on TV, the TV deals grow, I get more money."
Love him or hate him, you can't argue with his logic. Controversy creates cash. Passion drives viewership. Viewership drives TV deals. TV deals drive salaries. That's sports in 2026, folks - and Shai just said out loud what every superstar thinks but won't say.
That's what sports is all about - passion, controversy, and guys who aren't afraid to tell the truth.
