Revenge is a dish best served in September, folks.
The NFL is opening the 2026 season with the Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch. And this isn't just any rematch - this is the first time since 2016 that the league has opened the season with teams that played each other in the Super Bowl.
If you're a Seattle fan, you remember that game. You remember Malcolm Butler's interception at the goal line. You remember Russell Wilson's throw that should never have happened. You remember thinking your team was about to win back-to-back championships, and then watching it all slip away on one play.
Now they get their revenge tour. At home. To open the season. In front of the 12th Man at Lumen Field. This is going to be ELECTRIC.
The NFL schedule was released on May 14th, and there are some absolute gems in here. The league's first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game features the Rams hosting the Packers, and it'll be streamed exclusively on Netflix. That's right - Thanksgiving Eve football. Because apparently regular Thanksgiving wasn't enough.
The Netflix angle is huge. This shows where the NFL is headed. Streaming services are paying massive money for live sports, and the league is more than happy to take those checks. We've already got Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime, Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV, and now Netflix is getting into the game.
Traditional broadcast is dying, folks. The future is streaming. And the NFL is leading the charge because they know where the eyeballs are going.
But back to that opener - Seattle versus New England is appointment television. Super Bowl rematches are rare for season openers. The league usually goes with the defending champs at home or some other marquee matchup. But this one has juice. This one has storyline. This one has history.
The Patriots won that Super Bowl and went on to more championships. Seattle never got back. Pete Carroll retired with that decision haunting him. Russell Wilson left for and things fell apart. The Legion of Boom disbanded. The window closed.
