Les Snead just did it again, folks.
The Los Angeles Rams have acquired reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for pass rusher Jared Verse and a haul of draft picks - a 2027 first-rounder, 2028 second-rounder, and 2029 third-rounder.
Let me be crystal clear about what this means: The Rams just added the best defensive player in football. The guy who set the single-season sack record. The guy who produced 33 tackles for loss, the second-highest total in modern league history.
And Los Angeles is all-in for 2026.
Now, let's talk about Cleveland for a second. The Browns signed Garrett to a four-year, $160 million extension and spent all offseason saying he wasn't going anywhere. Then they modified his option bonus from March to seven days before the regular season, and suddenly this trade makes sense from a cap perspective.
But make no mistake - this hurts. This is the first time since 1997 that a reigning Defensive Player of the Year has changed teams the following offseason. That's how rare this is. That's how shocking.
Jared Verse is a good player. The rookie had 12 sacks last year and he's on a team-friendly contract. The Browns get three picks to rebuild. But you're giving up a generational pass rusher in his prime.
For the Rams, this is a win-now move. They've got a window, and they're smashing the accelerator. Garrett on that defensive line? Good luck blocking that.
Cleveland fans are numb, and I don't blame them. You watch your franchise player dominate for years, you give him a massive extension, and then you ship him out before the season even starts. That's tough.
