You've got to love it when a multi-billion dollar organization makes a mistake that makes them look completely human. The NFL awarded Seattle Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba the Offensive Player of the Year award this week. Great honor. Well deserved. Except for one small problem: they sent him a trophy that says "Defensive Player of the Year."

You can't make this stuff up, folks.

Smith-Njigba posted a video of himself holding the trophy, clearly labeled for the wrong award, and the internet did what the internet does best - it had a field day. The memes were flying. The jokes were writing themselves. And the NFL, to their credit, owned it with a pretty good response.

"Like the teams he played against this year, we know how great an offensive player he is," the league said in a statement. "We just had a problem spelling it."

Okay, that's actually pretty good. Self-deprecating humor goes a long way when you screw up.

But let's not miss the bigger story here: Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a breakout season. After being the 20th overall pick in 2023, he put up 96 catches for 1,327 yards and 8 touchdowns this year. The former Ohio State star showed why the Seahawks believed in him, becoming Geno Smith's most reliable target and proving he can be a true number one receiver in this league.

The trophy mix-up is embarrassing for the NFL, but it's also humanizing. We're so used to seeing the league as this massive, corporate machine that never makes mistakes. Well, guess what? They're human too. Someone in the trophy department had one job - one job - and they mixed up offense and defense.

I guarantee you that person is never going to live this down. But hey, at least we got a good story out of it. And JSN will eventually get the right trophy. Maybe he should keep both - one for the mantle, one for the laugh.
