The Oklahoma City Thunder just got a whole lot more dangerous.
Jalen Williams is officially off the injury report and cleared to return Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The Thunder star has missed the last 5-plus weeks with a hamstring strain, and his return couldn't come at a better time.
OKC has 11 regular-season games left, and every single one matters for playoff positioning. Getting Williams back healthy now gives the Thunder critical time to reintegrate their two-way star before the postseason begins.
Let's not forget what Williams was doing before the injury. The young forward was putting up All-Star caliber numbers on both ends of the floor, providing Oklahoma City with a legitimate go-to scorer who can also defend multiple positions. That versatility is invaluable in playoff basketball.
The hamstring is the kind of injury you can't rush. One wrong move, one premature return, and you're looking at a reaggravation that could cost you the entire postseason. The Thunder handled this perfectly - they shut him down, let him heal properly, and now he's back when they need him most.
"Getting him back gives us a different dimension," Thunder coach likely said, and he's absolutely right. Williams' ability to create his own shot, attack closeouts, and switch defensively makes OKC exponentially more difficult to game-plan against.
The timing is perfect. The Thunder are making their playoff push, and they're doing it with a healthy Shai Gilgeous-Alexander alongside a returning Jalen Williams. That's a scary duo for any opponent.
Oklahoma City has been one of the feel-good stories of the season - a young, hungry team that plays the right way and doesn't back down from anyone. Getting Williams back makes them legitimate contenders.
