Kazakhstan is establishing itself as a regional film production hub with international star Jackie Chan set to lead a major action film at a new state-of-the-art studio complex outside Almaty.
The Armor of God 4: Ultimatum production represents Kazakhstan's multi-vector strategy in practice—leveraging Chinese cultural and financial partnerships while building indigenous creative industries positioned to serve both Eastern and Western markets. Director Robert Koon will helm the project at the Dala Stage Creative Tech Park, a 15-hectare facility in Kaskelen featuring 3,000 square meters of studio space scheduled for completion in August 2025.
Regional Governor Marat Sultangaliyev framed the initiative as transcending infrastructure development. "This establishes foundations for a new industry uniting national values with cutting-edge digital technology," he stated at a ceremonial groundbreaking where a time capsule from Chan was delivered by helicopter—a symbolic gesture underlining the international collaboration.
The project demonstrates how Kazakhstan navigates its position between major powers. Salem Entertainment and Dala Edge Creative and Technology Industries Park are partnering with producer Li Qiuwa, who represents Chan's interests, creating a joint venture that connects Kazakh creative talent with Asian entertainment capital and global distribution networks.
In Central Asia, as across the Silk Road, geography determines destiny—and creates opportunities for balanced diplomacy. Kazakhstan's location between Chinese production capacity and European markets positions it as a potential bridge for content that can travel both east and west, much as the country positions itself in energy and trade corridors.
