Boston – Let me tell you something, folks. I've been calling games for 20 years, and what I just witnessed at TD Garden is the stuff legends are made of.
Joel Embiid dropped 34 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 109-100 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 7, completing the first 3-1 series comeback in franchise history. Read that again – first time ever since 1982.
This wasn't just a win. This was redemption personified. Embiid has been doubted his entire career, called soft, questioned in big moments. The Celtics had them down 3-1. Jaylen Brown said they might be better without Embiid. And The Process just went into Boston and delivered the performance of his life.
Without Jayson Tatum, who was ruled out with a left leg injury, the Celtics became just the 8th #2 seed to lose to a #7 seed since 1984. But this wasn't about who Boston was missing – it was about who Philadelphia had.
Rookie sensation VJ Edgecombe showed no fear in his first career Game 7, posting 23 points on 5-of-11 from three with a game-best +19. Tyrese Maxey added 30 points and 11 rebounds. Paul George chipped in 13.
But this was Embiid's night. Every time Boston made a run, there was The Process with a hook shot, a bucket in the paint, a free throw. He was 12-of-26 from the field and 9-of-11 from the line. He was everything Philadelphia needed him to be.
