Madison Square Garden got the playoff atmosphere it's been craving. And folks, it delivered.
Jalen Brunson dropped 42 points - including clutch buckets in two overtime periods - as the New York Knicks outlasted Nikola Jokic and the defending champion Denver Nuggets 134-127 in double overtime.
Let me paint the picture for you.
It's late in the fourth quarter. The Garden is rocking. Brunson is cooking. Karl-Anthony Towns is doing his thing with 24 points and 12 boards. And across the court, you've got Jokic putting up 30 and 14, with Jamal Murray matching him shot for shot with 39 points.
This is elite basketball, folks. This is two championship-caliber teams going toe-to-toe for nearly 58 minutes of game time.
And when it mattered most - when legs were tired and the crowd was on its feet - Brunson would not be denied. He played 47 minutes and was absolutely magnificent. Every time the Nuggets made a run, there was Brunson with a step-back three or a floater in the lane.
Landry Shamet was huge off the bench with 16 points in 36 minutes. Mitchell Robinson gave them 10 points on perfect shooting and played physical defense. This was a team win in every sense.
But make no mistake - Brunson is why the Knicks are legitimate title contenders. He's one of the most clutch players in basketball, and games like this prove it. When the pressure is at its highest, he gets better.
The Nuggets played hard. Jokic was brilliant. Murray was unconscious. But on this night, in this building, the Knicks were just a little bit better.
New York improves to 33-18 and keeps pace in the Eastern Conference. More importantly, they beat the defending champs in a statement game that shows they belong in the championship conversation.
